About Us

In 2017, two Chinese females, Biyi and Yan, freshly in their mid-20s, returned to their homeland China after years of studying in the U.K. and U.S. Fascinated about the country's rapid development yet also deeply confused by many aspects of it, they decided to start this blog to write about, well, China.

Seven years has passed. Today, as I (Biyi) write this to you in 2024, the world, China, and the two of us have all undergone a tremendous amount of changes on different scales. The world is no longer a healthy, interconnected global village. China is no longer the "rising star" brimming with the potential of hopeful reforms. And the two of us? We are now in our 30s, constantly exhausted by adulthood, but still driven by an unwavering curiosity (albeit sometimes tinged with desperation) about our country and its people.

So Elephant Room goes on.
